As we head into August, we’re celebrating the successful completion of another exciting season of collaboration with CIEE! Through our June and July programs, over 150 high school students from across the United States joined us in Tokyo for an immersive cultural and academic experience.
Hosted across our Takadanobaba and Ueno campuses, students participated in Japanese language classes led by Meko Japanese Language School instructors. From learning hiragana and katakana to holding basic conversations and navigating daily life in Japanese, each student made great strides in just a few short weeks.
But Japanese classes weren't the only thing on the schedule—students also enjoyed cultural activities such as calligraphy practice, origami, and wearing yukata, helping them connect more deeply with Japanese traditions and seasonal celebrations.
CIEE’s Anime & Manga students also attended workshops at our sister school, Anime Artist Academy, where they explored voice acting, character design, and manga storyline creation. These sessions left the students feeling a sense of pride in their work and a deeper appreciation for Japan’s vibrant pop culture.
Watching our classrooms fill with students eager to learn, create, and explore has been one of the highlights of our summer. To all the students who joined us this summer: we hope this experience has been the beginning of a lifelong connection with Japan!
